Because charities do vital work for people in need, we wanted to show our support and make regular donations to the charities that matter most to us. We’re asking our team to pick the charity that matters most to them personally and, as a company, we’re donating £1,000 to that chosen charity. Here’s a bit more about why we’re doing it and where our first donation will go.
Why We’re Doing It
As a people development business, we have worked with many different charities and non-profits over nearly two decades. We know it’s a constant effort for these organisations not only to carry out their charitable work, but to raise the money and awareness needed to make an impact. We wanted to put people at the heart of this initiative and give generously in the hope that we can make a difference and really move the needle for our chosen charities.
Our First Charity
Our Finance Manager, Vicki Richards, has chosen the first charity that we’re going to donate to: The Care Workers’ Charity. This amazing organisation supports hardworking, selfless care workers across the UK. They provide grants, training and development, mental wellbeing support and a host of other resources and support mechanisms for care workers. Their vision is “a world where care workers are recognised as skilled professionals who are supported, respected and resourced to be in a strong position themselves, and so they can deliver exceptional care.”
Vicki explained why this particular charity is one that means a lot to her,
“I feel that good care workers really don’t get paid enough. It’s usually minimum wage and they have such a difficult job. They get close to people and often hold their hands until the very end and yet this charity exists because, financially and mentally, it’s so tough for them. This charity offers mental support, and crisis grants to care workers.”
We donated during the charity’s Wear It Orange week, when The Care Workers’ Charity invites us all to dress in orange, raise funds, and raise awareness of the compassion, dedication, and hard work care workers put in up and down the country every day.
What’s Next
We want to give £1000 every quarter, so we can make a meaningful contribution and hopefully make a real difference to the work our chosen charities do. And it’s about more than just the cash; we want to encourage our friends, colleagues and followers to learn more about the charities we support, because without awareness of their good work, they simply can’t continue to support the people that really need them. If you can find some time, visit The Care Workers’ Charity website and find out more about their amazing work and continue to raise awareness and advocate for their outstanding work. And if you can spare some money to donate, it really will make a difference to people’s lives.
